Thousands of children and young people from across Worcestershire took part in the annual National Playday Celebrations earlier this month.
Communities throughout Worcestershire enjoyed a range of fantastic events that kept children and young people entertained. This year’s Playday campaign theme, ‘Give us a go!’ involved children participating in challenging and adventurous play activities.
The tour involved visiting Ronkswood Community Centre in Worcester, Priory Park in Malvern, Evesham Adventure Playground, Morton Stanley Park in Redditch and Worcester Woods at the Country Park.
They saw families get getting dirty creating mud pies in Malvern, building den’s in Evesham, and experiencing the latest, innovative outdoor electronic equipment, NEOS in Redditch.
Numerous events also took place at Children Centres and voluntary schemes in Worcestershire that added to the day’s celebration.
To mark the 2008 Playday campaign Play England have carried out a survey which reports that 21st Century children are heavily constrained when it comes to play. They are not allowed to climb trees, play conkers or often even tag, their freedom to play is restricted continually. Play is fundamentally important for children’s health, well-being and learning.
